Papalani specializes in chocolates inspired by the flavors of the tropics – like Lilikoi. Ginger, coffee, macnuts, mango, pineapple, and other locally grown or made ingredients. As with Papalani gelato, there are unlimited flavor combinations available to us here in Hawaii.
At Papalani, we care deeply about quality and craftsmanship. Unlike other chocolate makers, we use hand made caramel, marshmallow, toffee, and other additives. We take the time to make ours from scratch while other makers use mass-manufactured ingredients. You can taste the difference at first bite!
Hawaii Has a Developing Chocolate Growing Industry
Most other chocolate growing regions are dominated by large multinational chocolate corporations. Coco growing in Hawaii is developing so that small companies are able to control the chocolate from bean to bar. That helps to provide a positive impact on the local economy and environment, as well as providing chocolate makers like Papalani with access to chocolates with differing flavor profiles. Such a rich range of choices allows us to create finished products of very specific tastes and aromas.
(Since our soil and climate are unique to our islands, chocolates grown in Hawaii have their own earthly flavor profile and are as distinctive as is Hawaii is.)
Being located in Hawaii also grants Papalani direct access to a cornucopia of diverse, delicious fruits, nuts, coffee, spices and other locally produced ingredients. We know our growers well. We know where their farms are and visit them on a regular basis. Papalani works painstakingly with our growers when developing new chocolate flavors and styles. These intimate connections also ensure that all Papalani products (gelato as well) are made with the freshest, purest ingredients anywhere.
